Dyslexia Requirement Removed from Budget Bill

March 24, 2008

March 24, 2008

The House Committee had voted not to take any action on a bill requiring school districts to screen all students for dyslexia and related disabilities and provide an IEP to them. The budget bill (HB 2946) that went to the House floor had a proviso in it requiring all school districts to adopt policies allowing students to attend special reading classes or get special dyslexia services during the school day and prohibited use of funds to report or investigate any absences resulting from it. This was removed on the House floor in a vote of 64 to 56.
